The Blue Button Campaign is simple. Support free speech online and let the world know that you do by displaying it proudly. All proceeds of the Blue Buttons go towards aiding the Digital Liberty Coalition in their ongoing fight to uphold basic civil liberties on the internet, and will be used to spread the message to more and more people through a variety of different marketing and direct action methods.
The Digital Liberty Coalition is the only non-profit online civil liberty association supporting direct action and lobbying to raise awareness and demonstrate dissent to policies that involve censorship in a digital medium.
The DLC has co-ordinated (and is working on more) large-scale events in every major city in Australia and continues to spread the message about 'net censorship to an ever-growing audience.
In 1998, in the United States, the Electronic Frontier Foundation implemented a simple charity and awareness driven campaign using a blue ribbon, purchased from their store, or hotlinked on your home page to promote and raise awareness to free speech issues online. In Australia the trend took off, with many Australian sites hosting the banner proudly.
Over ten years on, our free speech online is under threat again, so it's time to break out the blue, proudly, and declare that we won't stand for censorship!
There are a few ways you can show your support free speech online through the Blue Button Campaign and supporting the Digital Liberty Coalition.
The first way is to get yourself one of our range of accessories that you can wear on your shirt, bag, jeans or anywhere you can think to stick them. You can also grab one of our t-shirts or website banners that you can display on your webpage, myspace or blog to let the world know that you support free speech online.
Or if you're really keen, you can do what most of our friends and supporters do, and promote the blue button campaign to your friends, family and work mates!
United under a common goal of liberty and justice, we ask only that we be afforded the same human rights as outlined in the International Charter of Human Rights; no more, no less.
